Production Diaries 25th - 28th Nov

 Monday,

A very exciting day today as we put together a routine for Stromboli's main song Bravo Stromboli. In this routine when I am not Stromboli, I perform as one of his marionettes. These marionettes come to life and Stromboli is able to control them throughout this routine, it shows how crazy his character really is because he speaks to these puppets like they're actually real. When these marionettes come to life, Stromboli is able to manipulate the puppets into dancing, falling on the ground and even lifting him up. These lifts are very challenging and require a lot of trust with our castmates for it to look smooth and clean. We alternated between the different casts so we all knew what to do when each person plays Stromboli. The song is already tricky but put with the dance it becomes even more challenging, controlling our breathing is really important throughout this routine. Anchoring myself really helps to reach the last note, it stops me from straining my voice so I am able to do a clear belt however it is still going to take some more practice to hold it.

Tuesday,

I was absent on the morning but as soon as I arrived to college we were doing run throughs of Act 1 with red and blue cast. We continued working on the Stromboli scenes we looked at yesterday and trying to get it polished. We're now getting closer to the shows with our final rehearsal at Arc being next week so it's important that we keep going over scenes that we aren't too confident with. Today I also started on some self tapes for uni. I have used the plain background in the green screen room and borrowed some lights to make them look nice. I have choses a dramatic contemporary monologue from a recent connections script called orchestra, its all one big compilation of unnamed students I an orchestra who are all suffering from different problems at home. I saw it live at the national theatre and I thought it was brilliant and one monologue stuck out to me, one about a young lad who is struggling with his parents divorce. Its heartfelt, dramatic and has a range of emotions as well as being in my playing range. I also have a comedic classic monologue from mid summer nights dream spoken by Lysander which I chose because it contrasted well with my contemporary monologue and I also find performing comedic classic monologues quite interesting.
