Production Diaries 11th - 13th Nov
Monday
After receiving the cast list on Friday we were ready to start rehearsing for Pinocchio. We started with building our characters world and we focused on the town, Idyllia and making the children perfect. We put together small scenes in groups of what we think this town would be like. We then had a look at the fight scene in Pinocchio and how we could make this as childish as possible and Disney-like using big physicality and even adding some slow motion.
Tuesday
We continued cracking on with our Dear Evan Hansen duologues so they are ready to be assessed next week. Me and my friend Delroy (who I am doing the duologue with) have been going over and over this duologue to make it the best it can be. We have got people to observe and give us feedback to make sure we are putting on a believable performance with clear character objectives and the correct status. I think we are ready for it to be filmed and graded. The rest of the day was spent doing our independent study and catching up on any work that needs doing.
Wednesday
We began blocking the scene for toys and learning a simple dance routine. We switched between the 3 different casts so everyone knew what they were doing. Our characterisation has to be over the top as each child and parent is telling a story in the background with their movements, even when they aren't talking. Switching from a child from a father is quite difficult so me and Kieran who have alternating roles so we decided to just be the child in toys. We also ran over some other scenes just to get it blocked and ticked off.
Thursday,
Carrying on with Pinocchio rehearsals, I really wanted to focus on vocals with the other Stromboli's, this is a very tough challenge for me as the singing is the most difficult out of any other character, there needs to be a lot of breath control and a lot of practice on strengthens my vocals to reach the high notes. I have a long way to go before this song is nailed so I am starting off by doing sirens to strengthen my cords, trying to reach a higher note every time without going into my head voice, I practice my breath control by breathing through my diaphragm and slowly letting out air. I have to warm up a lot before attempting this song as its very strenuous.
