Production diaries- 29th Jan, 1st Feb

 Monday,

Kicking off the week with more filming, today was meant for filming the rest of Jack and Josie’s scenes, two incredibly powerful scenes where jack is at his lowest, emotions are high and so is the pressure to get this scene right. I had to sob, cry and break down which is all very hard emotions to pull off. Both scenes involved just 2 people, me and Milly, so it’s important our chemistry is on point and we bounce off each other well.

Tuesday,

Another day of filming with another gritty scene, more loud however. This was a very hard scene to shoot as the set was very small and difficult to work with. We pushed through and it worked well, the cramped style of the scene gave us the right mindset to get into character, everyone is angry, everyone is nervous. This is another turning point for my character jack, it’s another development for his character and almost a breaking point.

Wednesday,

Last day for filming the party scene, all costumes need to be the same and so does everyone’s energy. We all need the same mindset as the weeks before in the same scene. It was a weird experience coming back to the same scene with the same clothes trying to match the energy you put on last time, another little lesson learned trying to work around filming times. This scene in particular required me to be a-bit of an arsehole, this is almost directly after he is diagnosed with a tumour and he is now taking his anger out on his mates.

Keirans costume that I helped him out with for the party scene:

Thursday,

No filming today, back to lesson at collage where we took a good look at character development, down to the very slightest of details. This was for our up and coming connections show “shout”. A lot of extras are needed for a few scenes and we need to give them life and a story of their own so they really are not just extras. An interesting focal point was how our characters got their names. So first of all we have to give them names, I play Student 1 in shout which isn’t a very good name so I changed it to Darwin Heart. A very true, reliable British name which means “dear friend” in old English. (Now time for a spiral into why he has that name) A very posh name at first which is true as his parents are very well off from his farther being a well trained naturalist and geologist ( just like Charles Darwin. Darwin was then names after Charles Darwin after they got a goldfish the same time I was born to keep me occupied and to encourage curiosity.  I was then named Darwin because of Charles Darwin’s obsession with collecting fish and for his famous theory about how fish can’t grow legs. he is known for being well off around his collage but he doesn’t want to be known for that and would rather roll with the crowd and differ from his farther. He is the entrepreneur of the school, selling chewing gum, fizzy drinks, chocolate and sweets with his best mate Billy. Why does he do this? Because he wants to differ form his farther, make his own rules and feel his own power. All this backstory just from giving him a name.
