production diaries - 9th, 11th January

 Tuesday,

Today was a very interesting look into the history of theatre and a zoom in on a particular theatre practitioner that changed the course of theatre history, The first part of the lesson was spent writing down historic moments in history, even from the very first historical event the big bang, then moving forward to extinction of dinosaur's, the pyramids, then moving all the way up to more recent events like the industrial revolution, WW1, the cold war and various inventions. After this history test we then had to pin point a piece of film or play to any of these points in history so for example, The tinker taler soldier spy is set in the cold war. 1917 was set in WW1 and Dunkirk WW2. This all really stretched how far our knowledge of performance could go but also showed us a link to how historical events (mainly political) shape the scene for film and theatre. The theatre practitioner we then research up on was Stanislavski, a famous Russian theatre director that took a very interesting approach to theatre at the time. He created the technique of naturalism and paid a lot of attention on sub texts of the characters.  We then acted out a scene from one of his famous plays "the proposal" where we used this sub text to shape our character and develop it.

Thursday,

Today was my first day of filming for our feature film #yolo (working title). A very hard scene to be thrown into, It was the scene where he has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour, he is stressed, overwhelmed, confused and upset and it was a hard little scene for me to capture. However, I did a good job and it was very interesting to see another side of the industry.
