Production diaries, 8th-12th October

 Monday,

Today we have developed a character to keep in the back of our minds. Each of us students were given a character  description from a “lonely hearts” column from a newspaper. We had to come up with our own backstories and what we think this character might actually be like in real life. What relations to family do they have? Are they bothered by their age? What job do they or did they have? All points on which we can grow our character. After this we were told to hang onto out characters for the meantime as we will come back to them later. Carrying on with enrichment today, our task had been changed to a comedy challenge. Instead of just weighting a monologue about ourselves or someone else, we have to wright a comedy piece such as a sketch, stand up or literally anything to get a laugh out of an audience and the judges.

Tuesday,

Another lesson on improving our singing for mainly Peter Pan but also on how to create our own pieces of music. We started off with warmups and then vocal warm ups to get ourselves prepped and ready. We practiced harmony and how to keep in tune as singing is a very big part in Peter Pan and will be a deciding factor for many of the main roles. We then were given some lyrics which the team were exited to put in as a song for the globe theatre Halloween tour. We needed to make the song creepy and we were given the idea to match it to nursery rhymes. Our group decided to pair the lyrics with the nursery rhyme “ten little monkeys dancing on the bed” as it fit the rhythm and sounded very creepy.

Wednesday,

Wednesday we started off with tongue twisters to improve our diction. We all went over out tongue twisters from last week to get them fresh in our minds again and then we all had to recite in our group a new and very hard tongue twister that everyone had to get perfect. This repetition of practicing our diction will help us steadily improve and make us more professional with our tone and clarity in the future. We then had to tackle a big problem with casting for the globe, Sherlock and Watson had been scraped leaving me and many other people to fine other roles. We worked together as a team and came to the solution of a double cast situation where me and my ex Watson would alternate between the role of the Stockton inventor Jonnie Walker and the extra tour guide from the primary show, Casey Close. This was an important quick decision that has helped us problem solve and to make the Halloween globe tour the best it can be.

Thursday,

The Globe Halloween tour is now set to be in full swing. We spent the whole day going over and practicing our scenes and lines to the present to our main man Josh from the Stockton Globe theatre. This was helpful for all of us because now we can get a feel of what we are dealing with and how we can lift these story's off the page. Not only that but costumes are now being put together for main roles so we can really get a feel for our characters and how we feel we can present them. Thoughts where shared across all scenes to help each other out and see what we can make better. Overall a very helpful day to get our heads wrapped around the upcoming show.
